Experience as a business
owner:
At age twenty-four Steve started Longwood
Employment Agency, a Manhattan-based New
York City Certified Employment Agency that
specialized in the placement of data
processing personnel. The company operated
successfully for ten years.
Experience as a
corporate executive:
At The Computer Factory, a New York Stock
Exchange company, Steve built Human
Resources from conception, and as Director,
led the department through the company's
expansion from twenty-seven stores to a
national presence in seventy-six locations
with over twelve hundred employees over a
seven year period. His
core functions included staffing, policy
creation, benefits management and management
training.
Experience as a coach:
For the better part of ten years Steve was a
software trainer and consultant for CompUSA.
He taught all levels of Microsoft
applications, business programs, internet
programs and graphics applications in a
classroom environment, corporate offices and
one-on-one personal training.
Experience working for
Dutchess County:
Currently, Steve is Election Supervisor of
the Dutchess County Board of Elections under
the leadership of Democratic Commissioner
Fran Knapp and Deputy Daniel French. In that
role he supervises over 500 Democratic
Election Inspectors, 25 Election
Coordinators, trains over 1,000 Election
Inspectors (both Democratic and Republican)
and manages 249 election districts in 131
poll site locations throughout Dutchess
County.
Experience as a
community leader:
Community Service is extremely important to
Steve. Since moving here from Brooklyn more
than twenty years ago, he has devoted
himself to the improvement and betterment of
his adopted city of Beacon. Steve has been
City Councilman for ten years in both city
wide and ward positions. He has served two
terms as Chairman of the Democratic Party.
In 1996 along with Andrew Chiusano, Steve
founded and was the first President of the
Mt. Beacon Incline Railway Restoration
Society (www.inclinerailway.org).
He also organized the Mid-Hudson Progressive
Alliance, an activist organization of more
than thirty members who meet on the first
and third Saturday of every month at the
Muddy Cup Coffee Shop. Steve is honored to
have received the American Legion
"Americanism Award" and the NAACP
"Outstanding Community Service Award."
Steve designed and maintains the City of
Beacon website at
www.cityofbeacon.org. One of his goals
is to complete a special section on the
City's website named Beacon Memorial,
devoted to soldiers from Beacon who lost
their lives in war.
Education and family:
Steve is married to Mary Danyla Gold,
1974. Mary is the Church Organist for St.
Augustine's Catholic Church in Highland, NY,
and for eight years was the Music Director,
Organist and Lead Singer for St. Joachim's
Church in Beacon. She has a JD Degree from
Rutgers Law School and is a licensed
Attorney in New York State. "I never argue
